IS IT BETTER TO HAVE DIGITAL FILES OR PRINTED WORK FOR YOUR FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY?

Contrary to popular belief, digital files are not the only way to enjoy your family images. Having a beautifully framed print or a thoughtfully curated album is not only an option—it’s often a better one.

The problem with digital files

Can I ask you a question? What have you done with the digital files from your last photography session? I have a few ideas… let me know if any of these sound familiar:

  • You never downloaded them.

  • You downloaded them to your phone, but now you can’t seem to find them (or you found them after quite a bit of searching).

  • You received them on a USB drive (or even a CD?) and they’re sitting in a drawer somewhere, collecting dust.

  • You did print some of them, but the colors look off, or you had to crop the image to fit—and the crop just wasn’t right.

Digital files often get lost. There is a very real “here today, gone tomorrow” feeling about them. They get mixed in with the digital noise and chaos of everyday life.

Digital files are also not as timeless as you might think. Files get corrupted, technology changes, and formats become obsolete—think CDs. Does anyone even have a CD reader anymore?

I think the worst part is the digital guilt. There’s often a nagging feeling in the back of your mind that you really should do something with those digital files, but you’re not quite sure what—or when—you’ll have the time. That feeling can linger for years, until you either finally print your photos or book another session, telling yourself that this time you’ll do something with them. And then the cycle begins again.

The staying power of prints

I’m here to tell you there is a better way.

Having a canvas or beautifully framed print on your wall, or a masterfully curated album you can look through regularly, can bring a genuine sense of peace and calm to an otherwise hectic life.

Your print or album won’t get lost or misplaced. It becomes a steady, grounding presence in your home. And you don’t have to guess about sizing, framing, or color accuracy—I help guide you through every detail, including selecting the right size, the right frame, and archival-quality printing so your images look exactly as they should.

Having someone guide you through the entire process removes the stress and uncertainty, allowing you to simply enjoy the final result.

The best of both worlds

While I absolutely believe in the importance and lasting power of printed products, I also understand the need for digital files. Digital images are wonderful for sharing online and with family and friends.

That’s why I offer both. First, you’ll decide which printed products you’d like, and then you can add digital files if you wish. The result? You truly get the best of both worlds.
